Four-alarm Red Salsa

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 15
  • 1 ounce dried arbol chile (seeded)
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 3 cups chopped onions
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup tomatillo, chopped (about 2)
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce

Recipe

  • 1 add boiling water to chilies; let stand 30 minutes; drain and remove seeds.
  • 2 combine chilies, onions, water, tomatillos, oregano, cumin, and salt in a medium sauce pan.
  • 3 place over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
  • 4 reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
